11th Week in Review – T-1 ? To Hitting the Road

This week was focused on preparing for, enjoying, and cleaning up from Jay’s brother Nate’s wedding.  Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs Holt!

We are ready to get back on the road any day now.  We are trying to get the car road ready, which has proved to be more difficult than expected.  Hopefully, we can resolve our car issues today and be back to driving tomorrow.

Where are we headed?  From Phoenix we plan to head through Show Low on I-60 into New Mexico.  We’ll go through the Belen area which is where my family owns some “worthless desert”.  Next, we will visit my past colleague Jane Burr who retired to Mountainair, NM.  From there we plan to head south so that we can ride our bikes in Cloudcroft, NM.  And then on through Carlsbad into western Texas.  We are trying to watch the wildfires in Texas to figure out where we can camp and how quickly we may want to head through the area.  We are keeping an ear out for volunteer opportunities along the way — if you know of any along our route, please let us know.  By next Wednesday we will be in the McKinney area, meeting up with my parents before Kate Wimmer’s wedding.

  1. What a darling picture of Laya! I think she looks like Cindi in that picture. We’re so excited about seeing you two next week!!!

  2. Sharon, this is the place I was talking about at the wedding. If it’s on your way, you should try and check it out. It’s beautiful and they allow camping! http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/balmorhea/

  3. Thanks Sarah, we will look into it. Great to see you at the wedding.

We’d like to make a correction and believe that Sharon and Jay actually volunteered many, many hours especially in the week before the wedding. We can hardly thank them enough for each thing they did. Some of the major things they did while here with us in Phoenix included:
Preparing a marketing plan for Morgan
Updated website for Earth Art Landscape
Furniture moving for Jay’s parents for Rehearsal dinner
Repaired and rebuilt a tandem bicycle
    Cleaned a workshop
Repaired an outside water feature and filter
Replaced and fixed the remote for a bedroom fan – harder then it sounds and so important to us as the heat arrives
Design service for water bottle labels for wedding
Cutting 30+ paper butterfly place cards by hand when they were no longer available for purchase on Etsy
Assembling children’s tent and play area for rehearsal dinner, helped with decorating
    Solved my photo frame issues
Fashion consultant, personal shopper for several trips
Took our favorite pictures of the wedding and rehearsal evenings
Distracting and playing with Laya so her beloved NMa could get showers
Cooked and shopped for several dinners, our favorite was the chicken in a pot
Emptied the patio cooler on a daily basis 🙂

We are quite sure there are a number of other things we are missing. It is so hard to believe how much happened between March 16 and April 16. Wishing you happy travels now that the misadventure portion of your journey is out of the way,
    Morgan and Cindi

  5. While Jay’s injuries were horrific (although not catastrophic — thankfully!), the timing was very good. You had the benefit of their presence for the month while Jay recuperated, and they were able to participate in the events leading up to the wedding. And these two have more energy and willingness than most! Best to you both!
